I'm glad you've decided to join me in this adventure called life!
My name is Melissa Alton. I'm 25 years old and I currently reside in Upstate New York with my high school sweetheart and our furry, feline child, Figaro. My husband, Shane, and I met when we were 15 years old in 2002 and finally tied the knot on May 29, 2012.
I am a nondenominational, born again Christian. As an infant, I was baptized into the Roman Catholic Church and took Sunday school classes growing up, but I never felt connected to the religion. I fell away from any sort of spiritual association for a long time. After becoming sober in 2010 I slowly found my way back to God. I researched many religions and tried out a few different Christian churches, but nothing seemed to fit. For now, I've dedicated myself to reading the Bible for the first time and anticipate finding a church that fits me and my husband's values and beliefs when the time is right.
This blog is about exactly what it says, "The blessings and woes of an average, American housewife." There is nothing exemplary about my husband and I. We don't come from money, or fame, or anything else that makes my thoughts worthy of attention. I write this blog in hopes that all the other, "Average Joe's," will know that they are not alone in their everyday struggles. I hope that others will be able to relate to me and I can bring some humor to the drudgery of our conventional lives. I hope to inspire others to look at topics from a different point of view. I hope to encourage the downtrodden and to bring a little piece of the gospel to all those who read what I have to say.
